Structural form and different techniques used in composition-
Structures and different type of techniques that different musicians uses are the most important parts of the way you compose your own music because its what make the song successful, if you had a soundtrack with no format then the listener would have problems to follow its melody. Also each musician have different talents in its lyrics or instrumentation and thats what makes it unique for the audience.A great way to make the song stuck in your head is to add a repetitive melody it might even have a slight difference to add a more exquisite sound. Structural elements- There are different type of structures that a song or theme can be created these are Binary form (AB),Ternary form (ABA) and Rondo form (ABACADA.)These structures are used for songwriting as it helps to create verses and chorus for the lyrics and chords to make it more recognisable for the audiences.Classical music also uses this type of structures that are used the same rhythm, duration and tone. Binary form- Is a form that is separated into two sections both that are usually repeated. This form is usually performed as A-A-B-B.the first section will start in a selected key while the second section will be start in newly established key.Compositions in a major key are modulated to a dominant while the compositions in a minor key will modulate to a major key on a third scale. As you can see on the right side I gave out a example of a Binary form mozart sonata that are divided into two different sections. The first section is in the of D major that uses a lot of G sharps that makes it probably the leading tone because if it goes a lot longer then it modulating and making A the new key for the second section. In the second section there are parts that are similar to the previous melody in the first section, there are synchronisation motion from old material but it brings out a new light so its more of a development. Ternary form- Ternary form is divided into 3 sections where as the first section is repeated after the second section ends. This form is played as ABA.The first section of this form is played in a new key that contains complete melodies and enters to the second section into a related key, they both have contesting character that makes it flow together. The third section will be better developed than the first and its usually indicated that its different than the first section.Minuet and trio are very popular for the third section of the symphony for example the first section has a lot of musical ideas that are dramatic while the 2nd section would be slow and beautiful and for the 3rd section it would be something fun, lighter and its using the forms of minuet and trio they were dance forms that composers borrow to use in their symphonies. One of the examples for a ternary form in music is the trumpet shall sound by Messiah. Rondo form- Rondo form it involves a repeated pattern of its melody set in a tonic key.The form is played as A B A C A D A.The A section is usually uses varieties of textures into its melodies making it different types of variations in each section. The A section is called a refrain that is the main theme and the B C and D is the episode that are contrasting materials.Rondo can have 5 statements or 7 statements. The 5 part is the normal ABACA that has nothing extra it might have a transition and a refrain but thats it.The 7 part Rondo is ABACADA and theres also a coda included in its format.Transition and retransition they are the same thing in each content, the transitional material leads you from the refrain to the episode and the retransition is the same thing but comes between an episode to the refrain.Coda can be also used in the rondo form after the closure has been detained coda would be something extra at the end. A great rondo example is by Beethoven string quartet op18 4th movement in c minor. This rondo has 4 statements making it a 7th part rondos the easiest way to found out what type of rondo it is you'll just need to count the statements. An easy way to identify the form structure is to see how many double bars it has.In this quartet there are a lot of used ideas but its changed in the way it is presented.Theres a syncopation with chromatic notes in it. Other techniques that are used by musicians- Search and destroy- Search and destroy method is one of the techniques that all composers use, it involves creating different ideas without developing them. Its a matter of searching to find a melody that is suited for what you are looking for.The basis of this method is to find the basic knowledge of the style of the instrumentation that you would want to use and the texture you are looking for. Experimentation- Its great to experiment your music melody because it can benefit to beautiful melodic lines. The melody can go throughout different textures and moods such as sweet, consonant and elegant to harsh, dissonant and violent. |
